COVID-19 Fraud Affecting Affordable Housing

Friday, July 17, 2020

Some laboratories or organizations may be offering to test residents of housing facilities for COVID-19 or COVID-19 antibodies as a service to the community. Owners and Agents are strongly encouraged to verify the authenticity and experience of such organizations and contact their local health departments before arranging such events for the safety of residents.

In addition to other government entities which have issued warnings about COVID-19 related fraud, the Federal Bureau of Investigation issues a warning on June 26th regarding potential fraud in antibody testing for COVID-19. The FBI press release and links to resource information can be found here: https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/fbi-warns-of-potential-fraud-in-antibody-testing-for-covid-19. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General has also issued warnings and updates this page on fraud warnings regularly: https://oig.hhs.gov/coronavirus/fraud-alert-covid19.asp.
