Brighter than Blight
, a multi-media art project funded by California Affordable Housing Initiatives (CAHI), with the cooperation of the Oakland Housing Authority and Councilmember Desley Brooks and presented by interdisciplinary artist, Ise Lyfe, will be installed at their 7509 77th Avenue (at Bancroft) site, formerly known as “Green Side.” The two week installation, conceived of and created by Ise Lyfe, a native Oakland social commentator, hip hop artist, educator and activist reflects his views on the importance of home and provokes deeper thought about the urban experience.

In this conceptual art exhibition, Lyfe takes on the long abandoned public housing complex that was notoriously known by both the neighborhood and law enforcement from the 70s through the 90s. Before it is demolished and forgotten, Ise Lyfe will transform the current Blight into Bright, offering perspective and bringing dignity to the community, both past and present.

Never before has city government, affordable housing providers, and the artistic world come together to take on a Modern Art project of this size and scope. Brighter than Blight invites audiences to pierce through a lens of an aspect of the American experience, reflecting on the impact of place, race, class, and housing as a human right.
